Näyttäisi nokian puhelimen saavan integroitua noihin VWnavi laitteisiin. Ainakin joskus tulevaisuudessa. Ei tarvitse enää auton omaa navigaattoriakaan yms.

Vaikuttaa lupaavalta. Tuon lisätietosivun http://www.nokia.com/terminalmode kautta päätyy artikkeliin, jossa mainitaan Nokian liittyneen GENIVI allianceen ja toisessa artikkelissa ko. alianssista http://www.linuxfoundation.org/news-media/announcements/2010/07/meego-software-platform-chosen-genivi-alliance mainitaan Meegon (Nokian ja Intelin kehittämä uusi älypuhelinkäyttöjärjestelmä) tulevan standardiksi useiden eri autonvalmistajien IVI laitteisiin (In-Vechile Infotainment). Listassa ei tosin mainita VW konsernia.

Koskahan tuon saisi omaan autoon (jota tosin ei ole vielä toimitettu) ja millaisen päivityksen se vaatii softaan, ts. onko se helposti ja ilmaiseksi ladattavissa vai vaatiiko jonkun maksullisen lisenssin?

Tuli vastaan linkki Engadgettiin, jossa ovat saaneet katsella demonstraatiota Nokian N97 puhelimen ja jonkun muokatun RXX510 laitteen välillä toimivasta yhteydestä.

Ideana on, että puhelin lyödään usbilla kiinni ja sen näyttö peilataan autoradion näyttöön. Autoradion kosketusnäytöllä voidaan sitten ohjata kaikkia puhelimen toimintoja kuten navigointia, puheluja jne.

Valittelivat että yhteys on vielä hidas, mutta ei tuo ihan toivottomalle vaikuttanut kuitenkaan videon perusteella. Tähän systeemiin kun otetaan lisäksi se tieto, että jos sallii nokialaisellaan paikkatiedon jakamisen, niin systeemi voi reaaliajassa tunnistaa ruuhkia tiellä ja reitittää uudelleen. Ja kaikki toimii palstan pitämässä OEM-hengessä.

Itse veikkaan että tällaisesta langallisesta puhelimen ja autoradion yhdistämisestä ei mene kauaankaan kun samat toiminnot tehdään langattomasti bluetoothin ylitse. Jo nyt on markkinoilla edullisia bluetooth hf autoradioita. Muutama uusi protokolla bluetoothiin niin saadaan standardoitua tapa jolla sovellus näytetään ja voidaan ohjata autoradion näytöllä.
Langattoman tiedonsiirron etuna on vielä se, että esim. talvipakkasella ei tarvitse kaivella puhelinta povitaskusta, vaan kaikki ohjaus voidaan tehdä autoradiosta käsin.

Olen ehdottoman samaa mieltä, mutta en usko tuon tulevan vielä 2011 malleihin. Siksi kiinnostaisi kovasti tietää, mitkä päivitysmahdollisuudet näihin terminal mode -ratkaisuihin tulee ja saanko oman autoni helposti päivitettyä tuohon.

Increased industry momentum for MirrorLink within Car Connectivity Consortium

Frankfurt, Germany - Today at the IAA (Internationale Automobil Ausstellung), Nokia announced Nokia Car Mode, a standalone application optimized for the in-car use of Nokia smartphones. Nokia Car Mode features an optimized user interface simplifying the access and use of Nokia Drive (voice-guided car navigation with Nokia Maps), traffic updates, music and voice calls while driving. Nokia Car Mode, built with Qt, will be available for download from Nokia's Ovi Store in Q4 2011 for Nokia smartphones based on Symbian Belle - such as the recently launched Nokia 600, Nokia 700 and Nokia 701 - as well as the Nokia N9.

Nokia Car Mode is the first commercially available solution supporting MirrorLink, formerly known as Terminal Mode. MirrorLink is a standard smartphone-to-car connectivity platform driven by over 20 major global brands from across different industries within the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC). With MirrorLink, smartphones can be connected to in-car displays, car controls systems, and car audio systems. Thus consumers can control their smartphones via the car dashboard, as if the device and its apps were integrated into the car itself.

MirrorLink is increasingly gaining industry momentum. Among the first commercially available products presented at IAA besides Nokia Car Mode is Alpine's new ICS-X8, a dashboard-mounted unit that lets drivers of supported cars retrofit MirrorLink capabilities and Bluetooth hands-free phone. After connecting their Nokia smartphone with the Alpine ICS-X8, consumers are able to intuitively and safely use smartphone applications from the ICS-X8's large 7-inch high-resolution display.
