Rumours and spy shots of the Audi RS5 have flooded the web for a couple years now. But with the Geneva Motor Show 2010 coming up the premiere of the Audi RS5 will be a fact. The Audi RS5 will have a 4.2 V8 producing 450hp under the hood, Audi’s 7-speed S-tronic transmission will be standard on the RS5. It’s said that the new RS5 will share some features with it’s big brother; the RS6. These features include Audi’s “Dynamic Ride Control” (DRC) Sports suspension system and the ‘Torsen quattro’, which is a modified version of Audi’s all wheel drive system that can automatically dynamically apportion up to a maximum 100% torque to the rear axle, or up to 80% to the front, dependent on traction conditions. The Audi RS5 should be available at the dealer June / July 2010.

Besides the Audi RS5 release in Geneva we have heard about an updated version of the Audi RS6 that includes an increased top speed to 303km/h and other extras. Most attention at the Geneva Motor Show from gathered international press will however go to the new Audi A1, that should set a new benchmark in the lower segments. Audi's RS5, which has been revealed at today's Geneva motor show, will cost from £57,480 in the UK when sales start in October.

The new coupe gets a reworked version 4.2 V8 engine from the R8, but with an extra 30bhp to take full power to 444bhp. It revs higher, too, and you’ll need to reach the 8250rpm redline to get the full power delivery, while the 318lb ft of torque comes at 4000rpm.

That gives the RS5 a 0-62mph time of 4.6sec and the standard limited top speed of 155mph. But Audi will raise the limit to 174mph as a special order.

The transmission is a seven-speed DSG unit, driving all four wheels. There’s a new kind of centre differential that Audi claims can direct up to 85 per cent of the torque to the rear axle or 70 per cent to the front. In normal road conditions the power split is 40:60 front to rear, and you can turn the ESP system off completely.

The whole car rides 20mm lower than a standard A5, and comes on 19-inch wheels as standard, with 20-inch rims as an option. Carbon-ceramic brakes are also optional.

As with all RS models, the RS5 gets a newly designed front splitter with bigger air intakes, and at the back there are two tailpipes on wither side of the car. There’s also a retractable spoiler built into the tailgate which rises up at over 75mph.

All that said, the RS5 is a deeply impressive car. It won’t change the automotive landscape like the original Quattro did, but it’s certainly a worthy successor to that car. In keeping with its forefather, it possesses astonishing performance, but crucially that performance can be accessed by all drivers in all weathers. The fact that it's hugely entertaining and full of character too is further cause to celebrate.

Nytten täytyy folkkarimiehenä myöntää ,että R8:n jälkeen tuo RS5 on todella upea ilmestys... Varsinkin tuo kirkas helmiäis punainen väri ... Minua ei niin kauheasti perus A5 tai SB sytytä,  cabrio kylläkin ,mutta tämä uusi RS.. huoh.. eikun lottokuponkia täyttelemään.
