Hei,
Sorry for texting in English, I'm a Greek that lives here and I am looking for a car.
I'd prefer to get a hatchback and a think a low mileage second hand Golf 8 is among the options that I am seriously considering (perhaps the top in the list of my options).
I'd also like to have the multi-link rear suspension so it's one of the main reasons I am looking for the 1.5 150ps MHEV ones, PHEV wouldn't make sense because I don't have a charger at the home garage.
Is it so if I understood correctly that all 150ps cars have the multilink regardless of the trim version?
Ideally I'd like to find one in the Style Premium trim but if I don't is there something important that the basic version is missing apart from the nicer interior, bigger wheels and other aesthetic trim differences?
I understand that this is practically the same engine as in the Golf 7, how has the reliability of it have been for owners in Finland?
Is there something specific that I should look for when inspecting the cars and their service records?
What are roughly the yearly service costs if the car is serviced in an official VW dealership? I will be driving around 15.000 km/year, so I suppose one service per year should do it.
Any other tips or advises are welcome.
Kiitos!
I have had a lot of problems, you can try google translator:

Maybe most of them are fixed in newer models ::)
I had (for now) only one problem for engine: EVAP valve
Oh, thanks! Looks like a quite extensive report. Yes, sadly I have read about teething problems in other fora as well. I will go through your posts after work. I am also looking into 2020-2021 models so that's practically the same car.
Of course many of those problems are software related, right? So perhaps updates have dealt with many of those.
Just today I reserved the 90 000km service for m y wife's Golf. All so called softwareproblems stopped when the steeringwheel was replaced some time ago, a very common procedure in Golf8:s and Octavia4:s. The engine is very good and economical, our's drink about 5.5 l/100km despite the fact that when the mrs accelerates her shoe hits the floor. It is a good car when the IT-problems are solved.
How much should I expect the regular service costs to be?
The 90thkm service will be about 430 euros including long life(30thkm) oil change, allaround inspection service and the air filter for the engine. Oil change is 30thkm/2years and the inspection once a year. Our Golf gets around 30thkm/year so the services are always together.
Thanks for this info.
One more thing, what exactly was the problem with the steering wheel that needed to be changed?
Has there been a recall? How can I make sure that the steering wheel is the changed one when I inspect a car?
The car keeps telling that there's a problem with the travelling assist and other features that I don't remember. The *pling* sound comes and goes, it's extremely annoying. When the steeringwheel was changed all that stopped. Off course not all cars need this to be done, if the wheel is crap it will be detected in the first two years or so.
